The 31st Season | 2010-2020

The 31st season opened with the third annual La Convivencia showcasing works of medieval Spain's Christians, Muslims & Sephardi. The season continued in a theme of cultural exploration with a joyous Christmas celebration of villancicos from the stately Spanish court, Mexico, and Chile, drawing influences of Africa and the Americas. The crown jewel of the season, Love Conquers Impossible Love, brought new stage direction, costumes, and a renowned performer to Dallas for two love-struck evenings at the Moody Performance Hall. The following Covid-19 pandemic shutdown made this performance one of the last live theatre productions in Dallas. ONS would become the first arts organization to reopen its doors in later that year with a masked show.

Love Conquers Impossible Love masterfully blends traditional roots with the dramatic influence of Italian operatic idioms. In true Baroque style, the story is based on the classical myth of Danae, featuring high-stakes romantic and combative tension between mortals and Greek gods.
